Guests are given two activity times, one in the morning and one in the evening. We do not mix pets from other families during activity time.
The length of the activity time varies with the energy level of the pet and the type of activity. Some guests take fifteen minutes to walk around the Nature Trail, some take thirty. Some guests may play ball for an extended period of time in the morning, but prefer a short walk in the evening.
Guests sharing a room share their activity time together. If a family that has multiple dogs sharing a room and would like an individual activity time for certain pets, an extra activity charge will need to be applied.
Nature Walk
Walks are given on our wooded and fenced Nature Trail. We have plenty of squirrels, trees and smells to keep most guests entertained.
Playground Time
Playground time includes, running after a ball, tug, hide 'n seek, or whatever seems fun at the time. Only pets from the same families play together during activity time.
TLC Time
TLC time is for guests that need love and attention, but may not want that much activity involved. It is recommended for geriatric or very small dogs that may not enjoy the outdoors. It includes snuggling, brushing (if desired) and belly rubs.
Activity Areas
We have three play areas.
Two are large enough for the big dogs to have plenty of room to bounce.
The third play area is smaller, but more secure so the smaller dogs can still explore the outdoors.
All three play areas are nicely shaded by mature trees.
(Dogs from different families do not share the play areas at the same time.)
Nature Trail
Our Nature Trail spans half and acre and is completely fenced.
It is shaded by mature trees and filled with plenty of nervous squirrels to keep dogs entertained.
We reserve the right to refuse boarding at drop off to pets with signs of illness, injury, contagious skin conditions, out of date vaccination records, aggression and/or medical conditions that should be managed by a veterinarian's care.
Vaccinations
We will need a copy of your pet's current Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella vaccinations. (There are several versions of the DHPP. It may appear as a similar acronym on the documentation provided by the veterinarian.)
Titer results showing acceptable immunity for Rabies and Parvo are accepted.
The Canine Influenza (CIV) vaccination for both H3N2 & H3N8 strains is recommended, especially for geriatric or "flat nose" (brachycephalic) breeds. It is fairly new problem in Alabama and vaccination is the best prevention. Please contact your veterinarian for more details.
Vaccination information may be uploaded using the link below or sent using the email address: INFO@MontevalloDoghouse.com.
It is best for the owner to contact the veterinarian for records. Some animal clinics no longer release vaccination records without the written consent of the owner.
Neuter Policy
New male dog guests more than a year old will need to be neutered.
Clients that have visited prior January 1, 2023 are waived.
A letter from the veterinarian or breeder's contract will be accepted for exemption if the dog needs to remain intact due to a medical condition, delay for growth, or contract requirements.
Age Minimum
Pets should be six months of age to board.
This assures their immune system is fully developed and they be less stressed when away from home.
Age Maximum
As dogs become older, they become more confused with new schedules and surroundings. Because of this, we no longer board new dog guests more than twelve-years old.
If we have been fortunate enough to see your pet through the years and they are over twelve-years old, we will do our best to keep them as comfortable as possible.
If we have not seen your pet within two years, and they are now over twelve years old, we will no longer be able to keep them as a guest.
Medications and Supplements
For Dogs, we are happy to administer supplements, sprays, ointments and prescribed medications. (For information regarding sedatives, please scroll to SEDATIVES section.) There is not a charge for providing medication. Please bring the original prescription containers with dosage instructions if providing a pill box. This will help should your trip be delayed and provides us with the prescribing veterinarians information if needed. ~~WE DO NOT PROVIDE INJECTIONS~~

If you would like your pet to receive a type of CBD, please provide instructions regarding when and how you would like them used.
If you are dropping your pet off sedated for the car ride, please let us know. Some sedatives have withdrawal and we need to be aware if a strange behavior is a problem or merely withdrawal.
We do not recommend sedating a pet just for boarding purposes if they are not normally needed in their day to day activities.
Aggression
WE NO LONGER ACCEPT HUMAN AGGRESSIVE DOGS.
If a pet's behavior is in doubt, please take them to a trainer that specializes in aggression.
If a dog displays behavior that we perceive could cause injury, they will be unable to leave their room for activities. (We will NOT deduct the cost of lost activity time from the stay.)
Should a dog's aggression be so severe it appears the dog could injure themself or damage property while contained, we will call and expect the pet to be picked up as soon as possible. There will be a $100 handling fee for each day after the owner is called that the pet remains at the facility and the owner will be responsible for all damages thereafter.
If we are unable to contact the owner and/or the emergency contact cannot pickup or assist, a $100 per day special handling fee will be included for the entire stay as well as all damages.
If your pet must be muzzled to be dropped off for their stay, we will be unable to board your pet.
Guests that display and/or attempt aggressive, dangerous behavior need extra caution and handling. We do not mix dogs from other families, but if your dog is prone to biting (people or dogs) under certain circumstances, please let us know in the Pet Boarding Paperwork to prevent them (and us) from being fearful or distressed. The information will help us prevent a biting incident from occurring. We try to be sensitive to the demeanor of our guests and will do our best to make them as comfortable as possible. If their problem is severe, we may be unable to provide them their activity time. In the worst case, they may need to stay in their room the entire stay. If a staff member is bitten, an aggressive surcharge will be applied ($100).
