We reserve the right to refuse boarding at drop off to pets with signs of illness,
injury, contagious skin conditions, out of date vaccination records, aggression
and/or medical conditions that should be managed by a veterinarian's care.
Vaccinations
Dogs will need to be up to date on: Rabies, DHPP and Bordetella. (There are several versions of the DHPP. It may appear as a similar acronym on the documentation provided by the veterinarian.)
Titer results showing acceptable immunity for Rabies and Parvo are accepted.
The Canine Influenza (CIV) vaccination for both H3N2 & H3N8 strains is highly recommended. It is fairly new problem in Alabama and is especially recommended for geriatric or brachycephalic (squished nose) breeds. Vaccination is the best prevention. Please contact your veterinarian for more details.
Bordetella (Kennel/Canine Cough):
Some veterinarians recommend the bordetella vaccinations every six months, some once a year. The vaccination's efficacy is dependent on the strain that is most prevalent at the time. To provide your pet with the best protection against bordetella (kennel/canine cough), please discuss efficacy and recommend scheduling with your vet. We cannot be responsible for bordetella (kennel/canine cough) cases as it is a highly contagious and airborne with a vaccine that may or may not be effective depending upon the strain.
Vaccination information may be uploaded using the link below or sent using the email address: INFO@MontevalloDoghouse.com.
It is best for the owner to contact the veterinarian for records. Some animal clinics no longer release vaccination records without the written consent of the owner.
All new male dog guests will need to be neutered as of January 1, 2023.
Existing clients will be waived at this time.
A letter from the veterinarian for exemption will be accepted if the dog is a breed which needs neutering delayed due to genetics or a medical condition.
Age Minimum
Pets need to be six months of age to board. This assures their immune system is
fully developed. They will also be less stressed when away from home.
Age Maximum
As dogs age they become more confused and stressed by new surroundings. If we have seen your pet throughout the years, we will do our best to keep them as comfortable as a senior as possible. Because age effects every breed differently, we will let owner's know when a their pup should probably use other boarding options due to age related conditions. We accept new geriatric guests over twelve years of age on a very limited basis and base the decision on a variety of conditions. We will call to discuss new geriatric guests prior to confirming a boarding reservation if boarding is an option.
Medications and Supplements
We are happy to administer supplements, sprays, ointments and prescribed medications. (For information regarding sedatives, please scroll to SEDATIVES section.) There is not a charge for providing medication. Please bring the original prescription containers with dosage instructions if providing a pill box. This will help should your trip be delayed and provides us with the prescribing veterinarians information if needed. ~~WE DO NOT PROVIDE INJECTIONS~~
Skin Conditions
If your pet has a strange skin condition that could appear to be contagious, please bring a note from the vet stating it is not or is no longer contagious. We reserve the right to refuse guests with conditions that appear contagious at check-in.
Fleas and Ticks
Please be certain pets are up to date on flea and tick preventative. If fleas and/or ticks are found on your pet during their stay, a spot on treatment will be applied for a fee.
Sedatives
We do not provide sedative to pets unless it is a vet provided prescription. We do not keep sedatives "in stock". The medication must be labeled for the pet for whom the medication is intended. Sedatives need to be kept in the original container from the prescribing veterinarian. Note: CBD's are not prescription. All we need are written instructions from the owner regarding their prefered use of the CDB.
If you are dropping your pet off sedated due to the car ride, please let us know. Some sedatives have withdrawals and we need to be aware if a strange behavior is a problem or merely withdrawal. We do not recommend sedating a pet for boarding. Pets relax quickly after arrival when they see the other pups are relaxed and having fun.
Aggression
Guests that display and/or attempt aggressive, dangerous behavior need extra caution and handling. We do not mix dogs from other families, but if your dog is prone to biting (people or dogs) under certain circumstances, please let us know in the Pet Boarding Paperwork to prevent them (and us) from being fearful or distressed. The information will help us prevent a biting incident from occurring. We try to be sensitive to the demeanor of our guests and will do our best to make them as comfortable as possible. If their problem is severe, we may be unable to provide them their activity time. In the worst case, they may need to stay in their room the entire stay. If a staff member is bitten, an aggressive surcharge will be applied ($100).
If your pet must be muzzled to be dropped off for their stay, we will be unable to keep your pet.
